Hello
I'm going to buy this laptop: Asus R510JF-DM025 i7-4720HQ/4GB/GF 930M/15.6" and the 4GB RAM memory is "on board", so there is only one slot more to increase the memory up to 12GB.
(the màximum)
I've read this forum http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/12gb-ddr3-dual-channel-possible.709895/page-2 and I see is possible to increase up to 12Gb and work with 8GB in Dual Channel and 4Gb in Single Channel.
I'm thinking to buy SSD Samsung 850 EVO PRO to use "Rapid Mode", and the question is if I could use the other 4 GB in Single Channel for buffering "Rapid Mode" in order to increase transfer rate in SSD.
Please, is there anyone who have try it this ?? Is it possible??
Thanks a lot.

Rapid sucks, don't plan to use it.

You cannot control which software uses which RAM. It will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. I also share the view that Samsung's Rapid Model is smoke-and-mirrors (I've tried it, long ago). However, it's still worthwhile getting the 8GB module because single channel RAM (that last 4GB) is still a lot faster than using virtual memory on the SSD.

Agree 100% with the above members. CRAPID sucks (I just tested it again recently (see my last few posts) and nothing has changed).
Always max out the RAM capacity with the fastest your system and budget will support. If this happens to be mixed (dual/single channel) mode - oh well. It is still faster than anything storage based that we have available today.

Have a read of the above article. Even RAID0 of NVMe PCIe x4 SSD's offers very little advantage to real world workstation type workflows (compared to 'server type' workloads which we don't care about on these forums).
But at least for the right workloads it does offer substantial performance increases.
RAPID doesn't offer that in the least. It is worse than smoke and mirrors. Just horrible software that has the capability to corrupt your system, data or program files from my experience.
(A much better alternative is Crucial's Momentum Cache which delivers what it promises).
Max out the RAM, forget about CRAPID and any other 'tweaks' that Samsung Magician offers (unless you want to do a clean install again of your system...). Use it only for updates to the SSD's firmware (and even then... wait for months before you decide to use your system as a beta tester for Samsung).
Good luck. -

Thanks for your answers. I see is better not to install.
