Im just about to get a Sony SR and i was wondering if a screen from one computer supports screens belonging to another computer?

i was on the lenovo site and i saw the Thinkpad X301 i was wondering if i order a replacement screen for that or any other model, will i be able to fit it in place of the SR screen? they're both 13.3 and LED backlight, i know LED matters becuz the LED is thinner and the casing of the screen is made to fit the thinner LED screen as oppose to the CCFL
ive been using a 1280 x 800 but i would love more real estate and the 1400 x 900 seems perfect
sorry im a newbie to stuff like this

wish someone answered my other post about changing audio speakers in laptops but oh well

    any replies are appreciated! thanks

I highly doubt the connections are the same. I have a Dell E4300, and the fact they don't offer a 1400x900 screen for it is my only gripe about the machine...

Anything is possible...but I can tell you now rarely are the wires running from the screen to the video card going to be the same from brand to brand. You'd need some tools, a solder gun, and a pin out of both screens (good luck finding that XD). Even then the screen mounts and dimensions could be different enough where you'd never get it into the case. You might have more luck if you stayed consistent with the actualy lcd's brands being the same but...in short I don't see that working.

Audio speakers might be a little easier :p I think there it would be more about the dimensions and the accoustic qualities of the speakers, ohh and what kind of power they draw. You're going to be cutting wires and may need a solder gun even there though too. (why not a set of small notebook speakers? I'm not sure your situation though I didn't have a change to read your other post).

I would say try the 1600 x 900 pixel screen that is optional on the Sony Vaio Z, but that is 13.1in and not sure if that will work on the SR.

yeah i said that is it as simple as unsoldering the old speakers and then resoldering another pair on, becuase i know some laptop speakers are better than others, in the similar size range, so if everything fits all i need is the handy solder iron and im done? i was thinking there might a limitation of power the speakers recieve according to each manufacters......everyones answer is always the samw to such things......if it was meant to be done the manufacuters would of already done it lol,....i guess im just more of an out of the box person =]

thanks for ur answer on the LCD i get what you mean, oh well i would really mess up somehow lol, so i guess its out of the question for me, i should of that the PINS and connection cables had to be changed thanks

umm thats why i said the Thinkpad X301 cuz its 13.3, 13.3 isnt a true widescreen 16:9 format so a 1600 x 900 screen would fit, whereas the 13.1 in the Z series is a 16:9 aspect ratio and plus its ".2 smallers so it would have fitting difficulties, but thanks for ur answer =] i appreciate it

Yeah no problem. XD I'm not saying it's gonna work though man, I'd only give it like a 30% chance of nothing going haywire at least the first time you tried. I think the killer will be the power, you're probably going to have to find something reallllll similar to what you already have you know? Which kinda defeats the purpose but yeah hah. I'd say do a LOT of googling on the matter first. And be prepared to replace the old ones if it doesnt work (don't junk em).

lol okay, but im not the kinda person who has extra computers laying around for testing, after i have my computer for a while i dont feel scared to test things out and open it, as long as i know there is an 85% chance that nothing will go wrong, and lets just say ive had really bad experiences with soldering so i kinda despise anything to do with soldering so i have some1 do it for me. i was thinking of replacing the SR with my SZ speakers, becuz to me these sound the loudest, i can have atleast a group of people watching a movie and the sound is efficient enough, but yeah, dont wanna void my warranty the first 6months lol but maybe i might have a shot at trying or someone else might who knows =/

the reason i wanted to change the screen was that ive always wanted to play games and watch downloaded high def movies, it would of looked better with more resolution, then on a regular 1280 x800 screen, when i watch i def content i rarely notice lag in the movie but i have to close everything most of the time, but a better CPU, ram and especially GPU will fix that, but that darn res will stay the same :(,i notice lag when i play PSCX also. would of gone for a 16" like FW or dell sxps 16 but i carry my laptop around alot and i love the 13-14" factor, and i cant bare to go to a bigger size, need that portability.

Are the SZ speakers better/louder than the Z speakers? You think the SZ speakers can work on a TT by any chance? Also the SR is suppose to have pretty solid ATI gpu so there must be something if you have to close most things to watch a movie, I don't have that issue on my slower TT at all with the worse gpu.

i havent gotten my SR yet i was talking about my current laptop "SZ" which i have to close most things to watch HIGH DEF movies, a 720p movie is around 4-6GB and a 1080 is about 8-12GB or so, plus in my SZ i dont notice the diff between 720p and 1080 it all looks the same to me, maybe im not looking hard enough.

i havent tested the Z series speakers, havnt gotten around to getting a hand on experience yet. but out of all the lappys i know in the 13" range, or so, i think the SZ has the loudest speakers, but i mean ive noticed that even with same models things seem to differ, my cousin has an SZ3 and i have an SZ4, mine sounds way louder than his, same with xps 1330, ive got 3 between my relatives, and all of them have diff sound loudness.
i like a full 5.1 system any day but i mean i hate having a laptop which i cant even watch a youtube video from an average distance without having to put my ear next to speakers to hear it. i can be in a good size room and have songs playing loud enough to fill the room, even with us laughing and talking so im pretty impressed with the SZ speakers. sorry got a bit carried there

to answer your question, the TT is an 11" and has a smaller chassis the speakers on the SZ are small but maybe not small enough to fit in a TT, ive never seen the inside of a TT so i cant really say. hope this helps you out ;)

Thank you. Maybe you can post the dimensions or pics of SZ speakers disassembled if you have pictures?
