    First time post-

I've been a long time lurker, looking to get my first laptop. Almost got an Envy14 before the radiance was taken away... but now that it is, I have re-evaluated the specs I would like.

Are there any 14inch-15inch (14.0-14.9) laptops that have a screen that has a TRUE 1080P screen?

I believe the Sony Z has the a screen that's 1920×1080, but is there anything else out there sub-15 inch (I need my laptop to be portable)?

HAS to be Windows based (no offense to Apple, but I have software that's PC only and don't want to mess with dual boots, etc.)

If there's nothing out there, does anyone know if any of the lines that are up to be refreshed will support this resolution? Basically, are there any rumors out there? I was hoping the new XPS line would have it- but alas.

    Thanks

Vaio is a 15.5, and the XPS is 15.6

I'm looking for 14.0-14.9, essentially. I'd rather not be in the 15 inch range. Thanks for the suggestions, though!

Sony Z might as well be your best bet, I really dont know any other laptop out there with a 1080p under "15. I may be wrong as I dont know about all the laptops out there but from what i know Z is the way to go :) but the screen on it is AMAZING i think its matte or semi mate and it covers 96% Adobe RGB gamut, so almost up to RGB standards :)
and for portability purposes its name as one of the lighest laptops with a built in DVD/Bluray drive, a proper GPU, quad SSD, and a proper CPU rather than a Low voltage or atom processors or i3 as most laptops its size have. so its an all in one complete package :)

would 1080p a bit too much pixel for a 15" ? You would need a magnifying glass when viewing text.

AFAIK the only 1080p panel in a notebook <15" is in the Sony Z. So either you'll have to settle for a 900p panel or move up to 15+"

    forget 15" the Z is a 13.1" with a 1080p screen :)

but yeah thats the best your gonna get, unless you go for 1600x900 which is still excellent on small laptops or laptops under 15" then you might have a wider variety then just.......one laptop in your selection

I concur. Just FYI, I have the Envy in my sig which is a 1080p in a 15.6" form factor, and I have a Dell E6410 for work that has a 900p screen. For mobility, I prefer the Dell and it's really a perfect resolution. You won't feel cramped, and there's really no reason for full 1080p in this small of a screen... you won't be able to make out individual pixels until you get less than 24" or so from the screen anyway.

The Dell Studio XPS 16 will be your best bang for the buck. In reviews the screen has received high ratings.

The "multimedia" term is what typically define screens with the highest (1080p) resolution.

Agree with Krane.. XP16 is your best bet with 1080P screen.. on the 15s might be too small.. certainly quality will be an issue too as RGBLED is unbeatable... from what i've heard.. i really can't tell displays apart and even a Hp Dreamcolour didn't look spectacular to me but this is my opinion.
