    Hi,

    I have a Dell Vostro 1400 with a 14.1" LCD running @ 1440x900.

I also have an external monitor, I would like to output from the laptop to the monitor however 1440x900 does not show as an available resolution when the monitor is plugged in.

The monitor is more or less an unknown brand (swisstec, alias of universal media company), no drivers available.

    Can anyone help?

Do you know if your external monitor can actually support 1449 x 900?

Yes it can, the reason I am trying to run it at 1440x900 is that is is the native resolution...heh ;)

Currently running it at 1400x1050 as the nearest resolution - craptacular indeed.

    Suggestions welcomed...

Install the latest drivers of your video card. Use a program such as power strip to set custom resolutions.

That doesn't sound right. If the native resolution was 1400x900, then it shouldn't be able to run at 1400x1050 because that's bigger than native in the vertical direction.

Also 1400x1050 is 4:3 (standard) while 1440x900 is 16:10 (widescreen).

The monitor seems to panel fit the resolution at 1400x1050 which is like you say 4:3. Another thing to note is I have no 6:10 resolutions available to me heh.
