Hi, Ive been looking at getting the new compal ifl90 but its gonna end up being my first laptop and first wide screen monitor and was wondering if anyone with a WSXGA+ or WXGA+ screen resolution on a 15" would be able to post an actual size screen shot of their desktop so i could see the difference? ive gone to several stores but they all seem to only have WXGA resolutions so i dont really know what the other resolutions would look like

thanks ^^ *sorry if this is in the wrong section*

WSXGA+ is the best balance in my mind. You can fit a lot on the screen without sacrificing readability and needing high-DPI fonts.

    Here's my 1680x1050 screen:

I also have wsxga+ on my laptop, and I would recommend it. It's a nice balance between readability and screen space.

so it looks like wxga+ on a 15" is about the same as a 1280x1024 on a 17" non-widescreen ... would you guys agree? just seems like the text on the wsxga is a little bit too small compared to my current resolution (unless that was just because i viewed them on my roommates 15" with a 1200 native res..hmm)

WSXGA is not too small. If it bothers you that much, just increase the font or DPI size.

Well, upping the font or DPI-size will still not look that good (especially in XP). If you think that WSXGA-resolution is too high, get the lower one. And both wxga+ (16:10, 1440x900) and SXGA (5:4, 1280x1024)=~1,3Mpixels. Check out this thread to see What the different DPI is for Screen/resolution-combos. FYI, 17" SXGa is 96x96, 15,4" WXGA+ is 110x110 and 15,4" WXGA (1280x800) is 98x98.

    WXGA+ (16:10, 1440x900) is my favorite for 15.4" screens.

I have WSXGA on my 17" laptop and it is perfect. I've seen it on 15.4" before and it is a little to tiny for my tastes, but if you've got really good eyes go for it!
