I have a Dell Inspiron 3521. I took it apart and it does have the 40 pin LVDS connector.

I'm looking for a 15.6" IPS Screen that's 1080p or higher (do higher resolutions exist?) Preferably matte if possible, but my preference isn't too important for that.

From the back of the screen the connector is on the right. The cable enters from the bottom left, so I'm guessing it doesn't matter where the connector is since it should be long enough both ways anyway. When searching for "15.6 ips" on ebay I came across LP156WF4 (SL)(B1) or LP156WF4 (SL)(B2). I don't know the difference and I'm not even sure if it's IPS, it seems difficult to find official specs. Some say TFT while others say IPS. I notice there are also other LP156WF4 displays that are TFT, which makes everything all the more confusing.

    Any suggestions?

Can you even swap in an IPS screen if it isn't officially supported? Like Intel iGPU doesn't support full 10 bit IPS panels, 8 bit at best.

I've been doing a lot of research and I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a LP156WF4-SLBx panel. I'm having trouble deciding on the number for x.

Currently my laptop has a LP156WHU-TLAA panel.

My options are from LP156WF4-SLB2 through SLB7

SLB3 and SLB5 have the highest brightness at 300 cd/m2. But SLB5 uses 7.0W while SLB3 uses 6.0W. I'm unaware on what can be causing the difference.

Are the IPS screens even 10 bit? My 27" Korean monitor is actually 8-bit IIRC. I find it hard to believe that a $100 screen would actually be 10-bit.

edit: according to all the links I posted the panels I'm looking at are all 6-bit

The LP156WF3-SLB2 looks great at 10-bit, but it uses a 50 pin cable and a ton of power. Looks like LP156WF4 is still the best choice for me.

Possible bad news. How many wires should I be seeing? If it's 40 then I think I need a new cable. (Click link to see full resolution)

If I need to buy a new LVDS cable, where can I get one?
