Well I'm thinking about getting a
150GB 10,000rpm 16mb cache Velociraptor HDD and a 500GB 7200rpm HDD.
Obviously 150GB is not much space so I was wondering, what should I install on the Velociraptor to get the best noticeable performance increase?
OS? Photoshop? Games? Microsoft Word? Maya? etc.
additionally what kind of files should I install into the 500GB 7200rpm that does not need high speed performance?
-thanks!

this wont work in your laptop, not enough voltage to power it. it has been tried.
also it would be too hot, the drive size is 2.5inch but the mounting bracket is necessary for cooling. -
Not to mention the vibration... your laptop would practically dance off the desk and attack you.
-
SSD would be a good option if you really need speed.

o, I don't mean my laptop, I was talking about a desktop, oops.

Then please go to DTR for desktop stuff

velociraptor is junk, its really not worth it because a high density 7200rpm drive will outpace it.
The Hitachi E7K1000 and the 7K1000.B are currently the fastest 7200rpm desktop harddrives on the market. They are based on 333gb platters
If you want faster loading times, get an SSD, or invest in a real enterprise drive like a 15,000rpm SAS, or SCSI drive.
