    I'm not sure if this is the best place to put this thread, but I don't quite think a monitor is the same as a mouse or carry case.

    16:10 in laptop screens is pretty much dead. Is this an emerging trend in monitors? I have no idea as I've just started the search for a 16:10 IPS external display. I'm aware of 24" models from from Asus, Dell and HP.

    So, are external displays making the shift to 16:9? It seems that's a majority already but if 16:10 is a form on the way out, I'll buy a nice display now rather than putting it off to a point in time where I may not have that choice. How realistic is that?

    Yes, external displays are also moving to 16:9. On Newegg, there are only 18 1920x1200 monitors listed, while there are 179 1920x1080 monitors. Likewise, there are also more 2560x1440 than 2560x1600 monitors.

    Lamenting over it won't help OP. Its just a question of economics.

    On the other hand, if you feel that strongly about it, you and the other laptop forum diehards can always start a company and sell them yourself?

    Good luck with that, since last time I checked, there are only two companies that manufacture/cut the panels.

    @krane.
    Lamenting over what? I simply asked a non-confrontational question and you've somehow your panties knotted? Thanks for contributing absoultely nothing.

    @MidnightSun.
    Thank you for your response. I'll start shopping around.

    @RWUK: there are tons of threads in here about how we don't want 16:9 the default, and 16:10 back, and that.. the fact that you asked for 16:10 sounded like you don't WANT 16:9 and would fit into that lamenting group of "we don't want the new, we want the old back".

    thus, krane replied like that.

    but yes, 16:9 is the way to go. now if that's a good or bad thing, that's another discussion.

    Actually I have no issue with 16:9 specifically. I do have issue with no option above 1080 from 1200. Now if there were an 18.4 with 2560x1440 then a new DTR would be a no brainer...........

    @Dave, I'm aware of the many laptop screen threads here but I've never read more than a few pages. I thought with the huge variance in desktop monitors, maybe it would be a different situation and I certainly didn't want the thread to be an X size vs. Y thing.

    After looking more into it, I've confirmed what I need to know (5 IPS 16:10 screens at around $300 - $500 ) so I'll be done with it.

    Where ever there's a market, someone, somewhere will step up to satisfy that need. The gaming industry is a prime example of that. And the reason the Ford Mustang is still around is the sole result of it's loyal followers. In that case, they let the manufacturer know what they wanted.

    Write them. If those executives in power now don't see the light, perhaps one of the subordinates will take the leap and start a company of his own?
