I'm planning on upgrading my wife's notebook's 160GB internal Sata HD drive to the Segate Momentus XT 500GB drive.

My question is, what is the best method of copying her contents over from the 160gb to the 500gb drive? I don't want to have to reinstall all her applications, documents and everything. I'd just prefer to copy it all over and was wondering what the best method is for that.

    Cheers and thanks in advance!

The trial version of Acronis True Image can clone your hard drive. It's very easy and speaks for itself once you run it.

You'll need to connect the new hard drive first through USB or eSATA.

Does she really have that many programs?
I'm a great believer in fresh installs. I downloaded Acronis as it gets excellent reviews but later decided to fresh install. I'm glad I did now as obviously everything was updated - which is handy...

She does have a lot of stuff on there. If it doesn't go well I will end up doing a fresh install. Thanks for the help.

    Cheers!

No problem. That's just my opinion though. If I were to do it then I would most definitely use Acronis.

Yup, clone it - much quicker and easier then a fresh install.
