Hi, would the greater data density of the 250gb make up for the lower speed?

    Which one would perform better?

If they are going to be similar in performance, then would the 250gigs at lower speed save power?

    Thanks!

i'm pretty sure there are a thousand threads about this type of thing. I'd suggest a good search and also check tomshardware.com

Every comparison you ever wanted to know about various notebook drives.

In short, it's very hard to say which speed or size of drive ultimately offers the best performance or energy efficiency. There's a lot of factors that come into play from raw size to platter count to the specific function you're trying to compare. Usually hard to generalize about drive performance on the whole.

It's from last year but this Digit Life review is also very informative.

Personally, I go for the higher capacity HDD, but I'm always needing the space. For the same manufacturer and same generation you can expect 5400rpm to use a little less power. For example, the 160GB version of the Hitachi 7K200 is likely to use less power and have slightly better performance than the 7K160.

Thanks guys... I'm looking at the T61p at the moment... and I've decided the 200GB at 7200 rpm with disk encryptions my favorite even though it's super expensive...
