I bought the 16gb of 2 sticks of 8gb each 2400mhz ram for 63 dollars.

The 32gb of 2 sticks of 16gb each 2400mhz ram is 125 dollars. Which one should I return? I did saw the 32gb ram for cheap for a short while, it was $109 total only but I waited and it went back to around default price which was $125. But if it was $109, obviously take the 32gb? I mean the price difference isn't a big deal if that extra ram means something.

Also, the 16gb total ram - Its single rank

The 32gb ram- Its Dual rank

Does that make big difference? I read single rank is faster but the 32gb ram even though its dual rank is still faster almost double then of the 16gb ram single rank?

Yea i heard 16gb is sweet spot and yes i open lot of chrome tabs. Well do you consider $125 for 32gb cheap? Thats how much i bought it for. I also paid $63 for the 16gb ram. But now i gotta decide which one to return. The 32gb ram was on sale for a short while for $109 total... but i didn't buy it and it went back to its normal price. Note if you look at the previous post i made about single/dual channel... make any difference?

What is b-die kit? I have never heard of that. I thought beside ssd and ram, you can't really upgrade a laptop? Is that ram? Because i think my 9550 laptop only takes crucial?

Well i thought this. If i have a ton of chrome tabs, think 50 of them, i use up say 6.2gb/7.9gb. This is while not playing online poker or using the tracking program. If i play poker and use program, well it would be approaching 7gb/7.9gb right? Now the weird thing is this. Let say i have a few chrome tabs opened and play online poker and run tracking program, well its going to be at least 6.2gb/7.9gb ram. But why is it if i open up 50 chrome tabs or so while playing and tracking program on... it doesn't go to like 7.8gb/7.9gb or use 100%. It definitely reaches 7gb/7.9gb at least. I would thought hey wouldn't it use up like 9gb ram at least. But the ram always make sure it saves enough to not max it right?

Now let say same scenario, no poker or tracking, just 50 chrome tabs. It uses say 6.8gb/7.9gb for example. If i put 16gb ram total, would it show 6.8gb/15.9gb used? Or it would probably show like 10gb/15.9gb used? And if playing poker and tracking software, with 50 chrome tabs, if it shows with 8gb ram... like 7.1gb/7.9gb used... now it would be 7.1gb/15.9gb used? Or like 11gb/15.9gb used?

My guess is the 2nd answer right since more ram you have, the more it would use?

Are you sure my max ram is 64gb? Always thought it was 32gb. I check online and it say official max ram is 32gb but I see a post someone said 64gb.

What flaws does my machine has that make it vulnerable? I still need to turn back on bitlocker as I turned it off last time when putting in a new nvme ssd.

Tiger lake only with TME or a ryzen pro machine... aren't those desktops though? I need laptop.

It is 64GB, unless Dell screwed up BIOS some way. Your CPU's memory controller can handle 2x 32GB DDR4 modules. 32GB DDR4 modules were a wet dream when your laptop hit the market, and it's not like OEMs care for RAM configurations they'll never offer for sale.
This one can't ever be fixed, for starters.
Tiger Lake CPUs are laptop & embedded, but I've only seen embedded ones with TME in the ARK so far. Surely laptop Intel CPUs with TME will follow, sooner or later; I wouldn't recommend prior Intel CPUs to anyone who cares about machine security due to lack of memory encryption.

Ryzen Pro CPUs have been available in business-class laptops for quite some time. E.g. Thinkpad T14 AMD (modern), Thinkpad A485 (couple generations old), and their Dell & HP counterparts. Consumer Ryzen (non-Pro) laptop CPUs do not allow memory encryption, sadly.

These are just recommendations. You might get away with using old and/or consumer gear just fine. On the other hand, better safe than sorry, especially if you can afford it.

Dual channel mode always performs better than single channel mode. Also you're already running in Dual Channel Mode because you're using 2 8GBs sticks. If you still gonna upgrade to 32GBs you would have to return your current RAM kit.

The first few replies to this thread summed up my thoughts on this exactly. I just wanted to add a +1 to that. When I jumped up from 16GB to 32GB, there were marked improvements, especially when I had chrome open while also using photoshop, AutoCAD, or Solidworks, which I typically do. No one wants to be forced to close those web browser to use other applications effectively.

Okay so im trying to turn on bitlocker right now and i went to command prompt and enter a few things.

I notice in command prompt i saw

    Identifier: bad memory

Is this a concern? I got the 32gb ram and installed it and i installed it correctly... but why does it show bad memory? Is this a concern? I upgraded from 8gb to 32gb ram. Is there a way to test if i got bad ram or not? Ram was bought brand new 32gb and I never thought of any of it until i saw in command prompt... i saw bad memory when scrolling through it?

What do you mean by that? I installed it about 10 days ago and when i saw it was installed... the 32gb ram and was recognized... I thought its good. So how do you test it?

I have lot of chrome tabs and it seems fine.

Without context that line from the command line can mean a million things..
What command did you run to have that output?

@Drew1 it has nothing to do with any memory problems, just a placeholder. Run prime95 Blend test for 15-30 minutes, no errors = all OK. Note that it stresses not only memory, but also other components, so watch the thermals and if the CPU gets too hot (over 90C), turn the test off.
