I'm a little worried about this. I'm about to order a Precision M90 with a 17" WXGA+ LCD. But that resolution looks a little low for a 17". Currently, on my old Dell Latitude (see sig) I have an XGA+ running at 1400x1050, and this is an old 14" 4:3 LCD. I find it a very good resolution for me, and while I thought it was quite small in the beginning (and many often complain of it being too high of a resolution), I've grown to love it. I'm really wondering if the WXGA+ is going to be too low of a resolution for my taste. On a side note, my roommate has a 15.4" screen with I think WXGA (1280 res), and the resolution doesn't bother me in the least, so will the WXGA+ be okay? Thanks for the responses.

If you enjoyed the SXGA+ res on a 14", I would say that the WXGA+ on a 17" would be a little hard to get used to--but that's just me.

I'd say WSXGA+ is as low as you want to go.

wxga on a 17in is just wrong sxga or higher is a must. 15 and below can be done with wxga fine.

I have a 17" with WXGA+ and I am completely satisfied with it. Obviously, some people here seem to hate it, but to each his own. Go to a store and look at some models with that screen size and res, and see how horrible it is. Personally I think it's just people playing the numbers game - other 15" laptops have SXGA+, so anything lower is not acceptable on bigger screens - whatever. Point is, don't listen to people who tell you what you will and won't like. With that in mind, if you really like XGA+ on a 14", the same res on a 17 will probably look not that great, so again, be sure to take a look at a model with similar specs in a store.

Thanks for that. That really makes me feel better. The thing is, I don't really have a choice. I'm getting a price match deal from Dell, so I can't change any of the specs. But the deal is so great ($1975 for the M90 with a 2.16 Core Duo, 100 gig 7200 rpm hard drive, quadro fx 1500M, wireless, CD-RW/DVD plus a great warranty) that I just can't pass it up. I'm planning on building a new computer next year when everything (Santa Rosa, DX10, HHD, etc) gets set in place, at which point this will go strictly to a school/mobile workstation. I figure I can get what I want then, I'll get what I can now. :)
