Know maybe any 17.3" 1600x900 TN monitor with a good (90%+) sRGB coverage? (matt is a bonus)

High color gamut is wasted on a TN panel, because color shift is always going to be terrible.

Don't know any 900's but in 1080's you have the high gamut TN in the T530 and W530 thinkpads, and the Sager models with 90% NTSC gamut. To top it off there are IPS full aRGB screens in Precision m6700 and Elitebook 8770W

i am interested in above average sRGB coverage, not wider than sRGB. A good as possible sRGB coverage and overall good image quality screen (contrast, black depth etc) not exceptional , just not to be bad in those aspects as well, but primarily a good (above average) sRGB coverage. The AUO b173hw01 v.4 gamut turns out is much wider than sRGB (almost whole of Adobe RGB) , i don't want that , and also don't want the 1920x1080 resolution.

B173HW01 V.4 is 90%, so you are looking at 72% (as this is the previous step) and 1600x900. I don't think that such thing exists. There is B173RW01 V4, which is 1600x900 BUT 90%, so it wont do the trick for you. All of the rest are 60%, that's it, or at least what I know.

B173RW01 V4, 1600x900 BUT 90% -> does it mean 72% sRGB? seems decent , better than the average mainstream, right? (plus its matt too) -
It listed as %NTSC, so it is wide gamut.

It would be just as "colorful" as your previous display, that's why I said that it probably wont cut it for you. From what you said in the first post you are looking for 72% display, and there's no such thing at 1600x900 (at least I don't know for one). You can still give it a go, this is just a precaution.
-
Aha, i see what you mean. i am wondering now if there is a way of "forcing" those "wide gamut' monitors to function in an sRGB "restricted" mode ...
