Hi
I've got a HP ze2366 with 2x 256MB DDR RAM with ATI X200M chip with intergrated graphic. Graphic uses up to 128MB system memory, not dedicated.
So because of the cheap memory prices lately I want to buy a 1GB DDR and put it next to one of the 256MBs. That way I would have 1280MB memory at my disposal.
Only HP says up to 1GB RAM supported for the product!! Which means up to 128MB for the graphic and 896MB left over! Thats to little system RAM for today. 1GB is just about standard now days.
What do you think? Will it work? Is there a little play room for 1GB and 256MB sticks together?
Or do both RAM sticks have to be of the same size? For instance 2x 512MB RAMs?

if hp say only 1gb is supported, then 1gb and 256mb will not work
-
HP says many things but as many know, factory information sometimes isn't very accurate.
It might work.
I'm hoping someone who's tried this before might throw some light on this... -
i doubt that the infomation from hp is incorrect. The motherboard probably can't accept more than 1gb. This is common in cheap laptops/ older laptops

Yes, you can install 1GB and keep one 256MB too, making it 1.25GB.
Though, memory supplied with your laptop is DDR333, I would suggest buying DDR400 memory, because in future if you upgrade other stick whole memory will run at DDR400 speed.
And also I my opinion 1GB DDR400 is faster than 1.25GB DDR333( ofcourse if app is too much memory intensive, that is different).
And with DDR400 you will get benifit with Video also as it is shared memory. YOu will 12-15% accross the board with DDR400. -
Thanx for the ideas
I want to go ahead and buy a 1GB stick. If the 1.25GB really doesn't work, can I just use one 1GB stick on its own?
I'm not a Laptop prof. Can the NB run with one memory slot empty? -

great, that's what I wanted to know.
I'm going to buy a PC-3200 to be on the safe side for the future. -
Hi,
It works just great, a real shot in the arm. Windows is just taking off now.
1GB DDR400 MDT plus one of the original 256MBs. Only the 1GB has to go in first otherwise the system peeps and doesn't start.
Faster than my 3 1/2 year old AMD 3000+ desktop.
512MB shared memory and the 4200rpm 80GB were like brakes. How could they do that to their costumers.
1GB DDR + 256MB DDR RAM sticks in an Xpress 200M IGP system possible?
