"PNY challenges you to switch on your computer, run an application, close this application and then re-launch it with ReadyBoost," says the press release we received. "You will discover that while the first time it took 25 seconds to open, the second launch will take 2 or 3 seconds!"

Interesting, I wonder how true those numbers are....

yeah because it gets loaded into the ram.... thats common sense.

I put it on my iPod when it first came out, and I don't notice a difference at all. I thought I heard not too long ago that ReadyBoost still doesn't work. :S
Then again, that was so long ago, I might not know the difference at this point. -

depends on the medias speed too.
between usb 2.0 flash drives top ones come close to like 24mb/s transfer, while a cheaper one may be in the 15's.
Who knows what speed an ipod is. -

I've got a Sandisk Extreme III 2GB which, I believe, is among the fastest of the SD cards.
I have tried it out in my Q35 with Paint Shop Pro 8. The first time I ran PSP 8 it took about 16 seconds to get started. With the SD card and 1.6GB given to ReadyBoost this dropped to 6 seconds. But I then took the SD card out and still got 6 seconds startup time. Go figure... I believe vista has other program loading optimisations and once it knows that will get loaded then it will pre-load parts of a module into spare RAM.
Last week I did a DVD playback test on battery with the 2GB SD card in and I think I was getting an extra 15 minutes run time on battery. The optical drive was running intermittently and I suspect that Vista was using the ReadyBoost to cache the DVD rather than run the optical drive continuously.
So maybe ReadyBoost gives some improvements in some situations, but I don't think you get everything that is promised.

heh. and i challenge PNY to do that again AFTER they turned off superfetch in the registry.

A value of 1 prefetches boot processes, 2 prefetches applications and 3 is for both. -
LOL - My PNY Attache is the crappiest piece of hardware I have ever owned. I got it free with an instant rebate at BestBuys one time. The case was destroyed easily, and I run it naked now. It is made of a POS Toshiba flash module and another POS Toshiba memory controller. Transfer rates are slow - it takes forever to get stuff on or off the drive. If you want a real benefit from ReadyBoost, get a real piece of hardware.
