    Is that a joke?
That will unfortunatly never happen. Even if they cost the same to produce etc etc (wich they don't) the marketing team would quickly boost the prices in order to suck every buck out of the consumer.

DSLR+HD Camcorder+Lots of Travel=LOVE for 1TB 2.5 inch drives. Call it a niche as an internal notebook drive if you like, but having the ability to carry around that kind of storage, all in one place, without the need for a plug is awesome. Don't knock it as just a novelty.

But you can't take it all with you and that the point of having a larger drive now isn't it.

Hence my point... apply that to SSDs vs HDDs. ;)

(a very very well hidden point inside a joke :p)

Great! I just maxed out my 500GB external 3.5" yesterday. Looks like I'll just get a 2.5" external now instead of upgrading the hdd in the old enclosure. Now I just have to find one with eSATA support.

I would love the 1TB one, but I'll wait for a little price drop and my WD5000BEVT still has some more space for filling (not too much though). BTW Thank you Acer for leaving enough space in there :D

    Those Drives got priced: 140€ (200$) for 750gb, 220€(300$) for 1TB.

sucky those drives have a height of 12.5mm and not the usual 9.5mm

It's not sucky. It's the next natural progression in hdd technology. WD could have just chucked out a 640GB 9.5mm drive, but that's a far shot from 1TB. It's good, in fact awesome, to have an option to have a 2.5 inch 1TB drive, even if means it has to be an external drive. For me, however, it's all good because my notebook can handle a 12.5mm hdd, or two :D

Does anyone know when they will actually go on sell? I can't find it anywhere.

heh. i just noticed, that would be a great drive for those atom desktops (nettops?). they have no issue with the 12.5mm. but still the drive is much smaller than an ordinary 3.5" tb drive.

and power consumption and heat may be lower, too.

would be a great drive for those (thinking of, a 1tb carputer.. :)). then again, in a carputer, i'd need more than one disk, just for the redundancy-case.. theoretical something like a raid5 would be nice. 2tb, 3disks.

that would allow enough music for ever in the car *haha*. lets put a hd beamer in the car, drive up to the next wall, and make your personal car-cinema *hehehe* :) (haven't seen that yet in pimp my ride..).

actually, the drive is quite good for such small atom pc's...

i hate getting such ideas :) once in, they never get out of my head again :)

It's been almost a month since the 1TB, 2.5 inch, 12.5mm, hdd was announced. The 750GB version is available now. When will the 1TB be available?

Can fit one if you have a 12.7mm optical drive using an optical bay caddy. See sig if interested.

I think the WD store had the 1TB model for, like, a day. This guy apparently got one to stuff into his 13" Macbook.

I'm dying to see some benchmarks on these. I would just get the 750GB but I'm wondering of the 1TB will be faster due to (presumed) higher density platters.
