Hello,I'm currently looking for an external 1TB HD that has support for ESATA and USB 2.0. my budget is 220$ and I would like to know what's the best for my budget, thank you.

EDIT: Thanks for all the replys I have decided build my own after the recommendations. I would like to know what 1tb hd I should go with up to 170$ (exact model) and what enclosure I should get ( up to 50$)

Would this be considered a good HD and suitable as an external?

In addition to that, I would also like to know if it will fit the following enclosure: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817347017

With SSD's coming mechanical drives have really dropped in price. You can get a 1TB drive between $80 and $150. If you want just buy any enclosure you like and mount a 1TB sata drive in it and you are good to go.
Plus its cheaper that way :D

if you want to spend all your budget, you should even be able to get a 1.5tb disk easily currently.

I got a nice Western Digital 1TB My Book Home Edition that features USB 2.0, FireWire 400, and eSATA also, and this is the best external hard drive I have ever had. I primarily use this for Time Machine, but I would strongly reccomend this HDD. I think my parents picked it up at Costco, which is a wholesale store. It's similar to Sam's Club. Anyways, this thing is awesome, and I don't know what I would do without it.

I'll recommend that you build your own. Most OEM/Retail drives have a 3-5 year warranty that the retail external drives might not have. It isn't difficult to do and it usually costs less to do it yourself.

As far as internal drives go, Western Digital and Seagate are my preferred brands. Hitachi is an okay brand, and I try to avoid Samsung and Fujitsu (low quality in my experience).

I'm not 100% sure about enclosures, but start with the Vantec Nexstar3. I have a few of those, and they would quite well.

I never had a problem with samsung or hitachi.
Fujitsu has good enterprise drives but their mainstream ones are pretty bad.
I have had lots of problems with WD and seagate in the past.

I would go for a Hitachi drive. The 7K1000 is a very good bang for the buck 1TB drive.

This is the top of the line Seagate 1TB, fixes all the previous 1TB issues and improves performance, this is AnandTech's pick for best 1TB drive (tied with Western Digital Black).

I have only used the Antec MX-1 Enclosure before, it is very high quality, but difficult to install the drive and expensive.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371008&Tpk=MX-1

I'm going to be buying this enclosure next, I hear it is pretty awesome, and the price is great, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817173042

It also comes in white/silver: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817173043

Note: I recommend using these through eSATA, though USB is certainly more than functional on each enclosure.

12345, your harddrive and enclosure configuration will work fine.

The only thing I may recommend is to get a external harddrive enclosure which lays flat.
If the one you buy as linked to topples, it could kill your harddrive.

I was just looking back at the enclosure you found.
You can mount it both vertically and horizontally.
The stand is actually a clip which the drive fits into
You can see that it is removable because of the gap in the picture, and the stand being absent in the image on the box.

So youre safe buying that macally external nclosure you found.
Just use it so the drive is placed flat on the table.

Its a very nice enclosure, I would get it.
You may want to run a google shopping search to see if you can buy it cheaper anywhere else.

Is the Antec-MX-1 better than the Mcalley?
I would actually buy the 1.5tb you have me but everywhere else it's above 200$
