I'm in the market for a new HD and was going to get the Hitachi 7k320 320GB model. I found it on buy.com, and everything looked good. The only thing that concerned me was that for the form factor, it says "2.5" Plug-in Module Hot-swappable". I
don't need to be able to swap this or anything, I just want to replace my current main drive with it. I imagine swapping out my main HD with the OS wouldn't be too wise anyway. Is this version still OK to get if I don't want to swap anything? Is the hot-swappable thing just an added bonus, or will it not fit into my laptop and is made for an ultrabay adaptor?
Forgive my ignorance, but I'm new to this hot-swappable thing for notebooks.

Its just an added bonus...
it should be fine. What notebook is it and have you got a link for the hdd?

I have a 17" MSI MS-1719 (GX700).
The HD is here: http://www.buy.com/prod/hitachi-tra...-drive-320gb-7200rpm/q/loc/101/208292236.html -

He meant what HDD do you have in the laptop just now?
The particular make/model isn't so important, as the format?
Only... you won't be able to use that Hitachi SATA drive, if your plug-in/hot-swap module is for IDE (/PATA) drives -
Hmm, I thought "What notebook is it" meant he wanted to know what notebook I have.
In any case, I have a 7k200 (100gb) SATA in it right now so the 7k320 should fit fine. The link for the HD shows it's a SATA model. I don't think the HD is even available as IDE. -
@smd9...yeah that will be fine. -
Cool, thanks for the info.
I guess the "hot swappable" thing means that it would fit in a bay that supports it too.
