I have a WD 2.5 blue HDD I pulled out of an HP DV. It says it is a sata drive. It does not have the standard sata connections. It has 2 sets of pins. My ATA connectior does not fit it and there is no way to hook up SATA that I can see.
I want to hook it up and transfer the data off it onto another Pc.

are you sure it doesn't just have some sort of adapter over the standard SATA connections?
-
I'm not sure. I only have the hdd and not the laptop it came out of. I Can get a picture of it and post it.

There's an extra adaptor over the SATA pins. Here's a review from Tom's Hardware for some reference pictures ( http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/wd-brings-250-gb-hdds-notebooks,1614-11.html). Notice how their version stops at that little square indentation in the black plastic, while yours has a little piece continuing on? That extra plastic should be an extra adaptor. Also note that ATA and SATA are not compatible; ATA is the older IDE/PATA standard.

So this one is a SATA or PATA? Crap I have to find the adapter for it.
-
The WD2500BEVS is a SATA drive. I was just pointing out that if your connector is ATA, and not SATA, even after you take off that adaptor, you wouldn't be able to attach an ATA connector to the SATA connection.
-
Your HDD is a SATA drive. It simply has an adapter over the regular SATA pins.
-
Where can you get the adapter for this HDD?
Is this adapter standard that many drives are using? -
Its a SATA drive. You can pull out the adapter thats currently attached to your drive
See the black connector on that photo. Thats currently attached to your HD. Wiggle it out. -
In the picture it looks like the entire disk is placed in some kind of caddy.
The metal surrounding the disk should not be there.
Is it possible to remove some screws on the downside?
After that, carefully lift the disk at the backside and pull it from the adapter.
Just my 2 cents... good luck.
PS: Flip made it more clear than me -
Ill give it a go in a few minutes. I like any excuse to take things apart.
That part came right off and I hooked up the standard SATA power and data without issue
