For blade servers...you won't be able to get it for laptops.

I guess Toshiba is already selling 10,000RPM HDDs....(2.5" form-factor)
They are not not for notebooks but for the server market....so who cares..!!

The press release may say 35% less power than the previous drives, but look at the electrical specs and you will see a power consumption of around 6W:
Many of the latest notebook HDDs have read/write power consumption of 2 to 2.5W and 6W would run very hot, if you can get it to work (you need a 12V power supply).
The Raptor series are designed for servers where good cooling is in place and the power consumption is much lower than the 3.5" HDDs normally used.

Id love this for my 17in rig that rarely sees battery time. But for my ultraportable Id stick with 5400-7200rpm. Sucks they wont work for laptops.

These are too tall for laptops anyhow. Laptop drives are 9 mm where these are 15 mm. The connectors would be different because these also require a 12v line.

I don't know about you guys but I am anxiously awaiting SSD in larger sizes and lower prices. To hell with the rpms....

When SSD capacities grow to a size of usability and prices arent double or more then a traditional HDD Ill start looking. But until then Ill enjoy "RPM" HDD and its sweet capacity capabilities.

Yeah I am getting a 128 GB SSD whenever Dell decides to offer them. That'll take care of everything for my OS and programs. The rest already is on my server.
