So I at one time had a desktop for video production with 2 xeon 8 core processors. Since then one has failed and the other is tired. I have 2 970 gtx cards in it and 90 gb of ram.

I have since had a baby and need to get out of the house more with a laptop.

Is it too much to assume a sager laptop with below specs will out perform my desktop with RED raw 6k footage?

    Sager NP9758-s or NP9870-s
    a desktop grade i7 6700k
    either 980m (8gb of vram), Full blown desktop 980 or 2 980m sli'd
    64gb of ram
    (2) 950 Samsung 512gb raid 0

I am also considering this with the thought that I will have enough power to edit on the go but will come back to an external graphics card for Exports and such.

    Alienware 15r2
    6820hk i7
    980m with 8gb of vram
    32gb of ram
    Samsung 950 m.2
Graphics amplifer with Titan X 12 gb vram (For when I am at home and need to export)

Any thoughts or suggestions would really help me!

The single thread performance will be better (~24%) but the multi threaded performance will be worse (~32%).

On top of 58GB less RAM, you're a far cry from what you had.

Aim for a platform that offers at least 64GB of RAM and also one with as many drive bays (of any type) as possible.

Mobile is still very restrictive when compared to the desktop options...

NP9870 (rebranded Clevo P870DM, you can find it elsewhere with this name), is the best you can get in a mobile form. You'd be severely held back by Alienware's CPU, or rather cooling and power management.

Agreed, the Alienware is a throttling piece of junk.. Get either of the Sagers, the 9870S is of course better and can have a single GTX 980 desktop GPU or 980M SLI....

    Can you buy a old P570 with E5 2697 V2?
