Hey guys,
I'm doing some early research for my Christmas shopping. I'm looking for a SSD in the range of 240-256GB and a price range of $300-500 (preferably closer to $300).
I've found the Crucial CT256M225 which is supposed to score around a ~7.3
I'm not looking for something thats the ferrari of SSD but I do want something thats very noticably faster than my 7200rpm.
Does anyone have a favorite they would like to suggest?

Intel should release new SSDs (G3s) in late 2010 (Q4), 300Gb models are in the work, I'd wait a little longer!

if you can wait till feb or march then it will be well worth it but if you can't then

Seen several Crucial CT256M225 failed after few weeks of use. Not worth the hassle, imo.
Good luck
EDIT:
WoW!! Just saw faiz23 link. Vertex 2 240GB now for $429.99 only??
Was $650 when I got mine -
i am sure you can get that lower just thinking of the top of my head newegg has 2% cashback and the mail in rebate is $30 and sometime newegg has coupon codes so if you can find those knock off another $20. They had a killer deal on this drive for $199 shipped no rebates nothing upfront and same drive as VERTEX II.

Thanks for the advice guys. I will definitely be holding out till after the 1st of the year. I found out about the other drives failing, definitely a discouragement. Right now the Vertex II is looking like the sweet spot for me. If I can't wait I will definitely pull the trigger on one of those.

I would hold out if I were you. With 25nm just around the corner expect decent price/GB ratio drops and hopefully absoltute SATA II saturation
i'm talking random and sustained reads and writes not just sequential.
240-256gb SSD
