    Hi

    We have a discussion in the Acer thread on the new timeline series 3830/4830/5830 regarding the battery wear. On another forum (think it's malaysian) they have the same discussion.

    The thing is, my battery wear level is at 25%, and this is just in 2 weeks! It's increasing every day.

    I've called Acer and I'm still waiting for their response via e-mail. I guess I have the right to get a new machine right? What about refund?

    I'm asking because I've used notebooks for years, and have never experienced such a thing, nor heard of others with the same problem.

    I created a new thread in the hardware section, since not everybody reads the Acer forum, and I can get more answers here.

    I did a calibration, and I know how to keep the battery healthy. Could it be something else?

    Did you buy it from a reseller? See if you can return it. Servicing Acer laptops at my workplace, they will only replace the battery if completely defective (no charge whatsoever) or if it holds significantly less battery life (losing all charge in 10-15 minutes) while under warranty. Given how new it is, I would rather get that exchanged/returned.

    Thats harsh. D;
    My stepdads i3 350m E-Machines (Acer owns them) is nearly 4 months soon and the battery wear has not yet crossed the 95% mark according to the software i used to check with.

    Sounds like you perhaps got a faulty battery or something.

    I don't think I wanna know the wear rate of the battery.

    Just like I don't wanna know the date of my death, I'll just treat myself and the battery the best I can and hope it will last for many years to come!

    :)

    Well, ignoring it is like ignoring health signs. 25% is absurd. It might be that bad after 12-18 months if you use your machine on battery daily. I would return the machine.

    Well it's just increasing again, right now it's at 27%... Other have the same problem. If this is a problem with all the new timelines they will have to recall the batteries.

    @Tsunade_Hime

    You only replace the battery if it's completely dead? I'll hit 100% within a few weeks, if it keeps increasing at this rate :(

    Yes, there's no information on recall or software updates. Have the latest BIOS too.

    27% in 14 days is ridiculous... The problem is, if I return it they'll probably put in the exact same Panasonic battery and think that it will solve the problem, but it won't.

    I heard that some manufacturers will replace the battery when it will only hold half it's original charge within the battery's warranty period.

    TBH, you can only speculate what they will do.

    Until you actually get in touch we will never know what they will do.

    After all you have identified a issue, Until you give them the opportunity to rectify the issue we can't say what the outcome will be.

    Give them a call. The item they ave sold you is not fit for the purpose.

    From what Acer US has told us, you can get a replacement battery only if it is completely dead or literally holds a fraction of the original charge. I don't think they will accept an RMA based on charge wear alone due to many programs not reading it properly. I would just return the laptop from the place where you got it.

    Did I miss something?

    If I return it, do you know of other SB machines with 13 inch screen and same performance and at the same price?
    It seems like Acer har the best price/performance ratio when talking SB laptops

    I'm doing one more calibration to see if it will change, if not then I'll return it and get my money back, and start looking for another machine with same price/performance ratio... :(

    Or exchange it and see if the next laptop has the same issue. If it does, then return it. If not then well, you got the laptop you wanted.
