Which HDD shall i buy for me laptop?
How much faster is the 120/7200 then the 250/5400?
Would the 120/7200 make more noise then the 250/5400?

On the contrary, the 250GB 5400RPM would be faster than the 120GB 7200RPM, being much more dense. And the 120GB 7200RPM would be louder... It would also matter what brand drive it is. Some are noticeably noisy, others aren't... :)

Go for the 250Gb 5400rpm drive, it will be quieter, faster and use less power = more battery life.

The 250Gb 5400rpm drive is actually faster than a 120gb 7200rpm drive, because the 5400rpm drive has a very high data density. What this means is that in every square inch of the drive, there is much more data on the platters of the 250gb drive than there is on the 7200rpm drive.
SInce there is more data, more data can fit underneath the head of the drive, meaning that more information can be read in the same amount of time.

Ppl always say that HD(high density) 5400 drives are faster than 7200 ones, but are there any good, objective benchmarks or other reliable sources?
Coz i was sure to get me a 7200 200GB from Hitachi or Seagate, for about 149 Euros. A 5400 320GB Samsung would just be 99 Euros.
Im mainly concerned about (bootup) speed and secondly power consumption. Capacity is unimportant, coz i already 4TB in my Desktop + external drives.
So which one would be better? And gimme some benchmarks or something

Okay, well you want some benchmarks, how is this:
You can clearly see that the 320Gb 5400rpm drive is almost exactly the same speed as the 7200rpm 200gb drive. The 320gb 5400rpm has a lower power consumption and its cheaper, so you have a double win going for th 320gb drive.

    I hope this helps

Also check out the hdtune bench thread, you will see 7k200 bench marks and 320gb samsung benchmarks

actually, according to that article: 200GB 7200 vs 320GB 5400

    access times: 7200RPM wins
XP boot up time: 7200RPM wins
    transfer rates: equal
    power consumption: 7200RPM wins (page 7, 7200RPM is lower, 3.2W-3.8W vs 3.2W-4.2W)

then again, wins are marginal as the 200GB 7200RPM drives are fairly old now while 320GB 5400RPM are fairly recent (comparatively) - however, prices are almost the same from what I can find online (~$150 for either). Fujitsu and Samsung are releasing 250 and 320GB 7200RPM drives - should be interesting to compare against the new 500 and 400GB 5400RPM drives)

Trying to decide which drive is Fastest.

    http://configtool.fujitsupc.com/ser...eId=first&CPN=A7H2H1E60A9C1020&lino=&GPID=101

I do NOT need more than 100GB of storage.
So capacity is Not an object.
    Just speed.

All of the above choices i believe from the tech specs are Sata 150 and most not listed on the chart above according to tech specs. http://www.computers.us.fujitsu.com....shtml?products/notebooks/tech_specs/s6520_ts

Will the 120gb 7200 be faster than the 250/320 5400 drives? Appreciably?

    thx

Generally speaking, the 320GB/5400 will be the fastest of those drives.

I would buy the 80 GB (5400 rpm) hard drive of them and replace it for a Hitachi 7K320 for $149 at zipzoomfly. That would be the fastest and cheaper (compared to Fujitsu prices).

If you want smaller go for the 160GB 7K320.

    Yes it will be faster.

I do not know if installation on this particular Fujitsu is easy. You may want to ask in the Fujtsu forums.

On a side note, I notice this is a quite light Fujitsu, it may interesting to consider the Western Digital 1600BEKT. It is about as fast as the Hitachi but less likely to cause vibration and heat. Although not everyone seems to experience the vibration of the 7K320, just some have noticed it.

Well that 'small encouragement' is actually all you need. If there is a panel to the hard drive it's easy.
