There has been mixed reviews on the Patriot SSD, and while some say they stutter, others say that they work perfect. I'm at a complete loss on which to choose, so here it is:

    patriot ssd - $175
    250gb 7200.3 - $87
    (CANADIAN DOLLARS)

Size is not an issue, and write speed is not really an issue for me either (mostly going to be doing reads, so that's of highest importance). However, stutters are completely unacceptable, and I absolutely won't tolerate them!! Basically, which one do you think is a better choice for me. Money does come into play, but I have enough to buy either one.

Please vote for which one you think I should get.

BTW, does anyone know if NCIX would accept returns if the drive turns out bummer?

Getting the Patriot as your system drive is too risky in my opinion.

I vote for the Seagate 7200.3

Or wait for more reviews of the Patriot.

Unfortunately, that isn't much of an option, as I sort of want to order it by the end of tomorrow (want it with my new lappy).
However, if there is a significant majority in one of the votes, I'll buy it today.

Problem is, you know more about the Patriot SSD than the majority of the people voting :)

Patriot if it does not have a JMicron controller. If it does the Seagate is the better bet. JMicron suck.

Thats where the problem comes in. Some claim (with good picture evidence) that it is a JMicron sucker and have 6 IOPS, whereas an official post from Patriot themselves to not use the JMicron. A few other reviews claim that it has excellent performance. I think Philflow is right, it is sort of too early to decide if it is any good or not, and buying it is a huge risk.

Well I voted for the HDD. In 6 or 9 months, the SSDs should be more of a known quantity, and less expensive, so you can get that SSD and sell the HDD and not really spend any more money than you would have spent buying the SSD today... and you'll avoid any possible problems.

I have the Patriot Warp V2 32gb SSD and I wouldn't recommend it. It does read fast and with ATTO benchmarking, it does do just about 100mb/s writes on larger blocks and 170mb/sec reads. But on smaller blocks it's really slow. I've gotten it to stutter but can't always reproduce it when I want to, perhaps cuz a lot of things are cached with vista. But I have gotten it to stutter while playing an mp3 file and downloading at the same time. Things also do pause in between opening a lotta things. I wouldn't gone for a 320gb 7200.3 if I knew how this patriot ssd really performed. When things do go smooth though, it's blazing fast, especially game load times. This might be good having it as a 2nd drive installed together with a HD and storing all programs on the SSD which windows and pagefile stays on HD.

K, I decided to order a 250gb 7200.3, and I'll probably upgrade to a better SSD some time in the future. Thanks for voting.

If you can verrify its is a v2, then the patriot is the way to go (especially at that price).

NCIX will take back defective items, but usually only for exchange or else you get a %15 restocking fee.

PS - I just sent you an IM.
