I've read different things. Can somebody shed some light on which one will use less battery. I know that the Samsung 840 pro is faster.

Do you mean Ultra Plus, not Ultra Plus Pro?

Here is the power consumption page of the Ultra Plus review on [H]ardOCP. The Samsung 840 Pro is also listed. Samsung edges it out in all but one of six categories, Random Write. The Ulta does well in the all important Idle category for laptop users but the 840 Pro wins here.

AnadTech has the 840 Pro ahead in two of three categories. Idle and Sequential Write. Ultra winning Random Write.

Tweaktown has the Ultra Plus beating the 840 Pro by roughly 15 minutes in their Bapco MobileMark 2012 1.5

If the Samsung Pro is faster it should get to idle faster. Both reviews that list idle consumption favor the 840 Pro but not by much. All in all, both drives do very well and would be fine in a laptop.

Thanks. That's interesting. I got the Ultra Plus for $140 and then, after reading reviews, got a used Samsung Pro for $180. Your answer makes it a tough decision.
