Ok, I'm buying a laptop for my daughter going to college. I've done all the research and know what I'm looking for, etc. I keep coming back to one laptop that just seems really perfect and beats all the others for what I'm looking for. Lenovo Y450 - 418939U. But I have one question: 256mb for graphics, is this a real issue? She's not a huge gamer in any sense of the word. But might she play some games? Yes. But not graphic-intense games. She'll be using this for schoolwork, surfing the web and e-mail, storing pictures, some drawing applications, and "some" games. Somewhere I saw a forum trail where a person explained that more than the 256mb would be superfluous for this setup anyway, and that it isn't a problem. I just need some clarification on how the 256mb may or may not be an issue. In all other ways, this laptop seems great for us. Thanks.

The NVIDIA GeForce G105M should be fine for your daughter if she isn't playing any new blockbuster 3d games.
Ignore the amount of VRAM the card has, focus on the classification, memory bus width, and clock speeds if you want to compare video cards for gaming.
256mb alone doesn't mean much, 256mb of VRAM supporting a GPU has been around for a long while, there are more important things when it comes to graphics cards nowadays.
But you/her should fill in the faq if you haven't already. -
