My dad has an older lappy with 256mb of ram running a completely stripped down version of windows xp (the install cd is like ~250 mb itself)
he mostly uses it for email and office...
would it be worth it to upgrade to 512 mb even though in task manager he doesnt go above 180mb ram usage

i had an experience with my old desktop where i had 512mb of ram and at most i used 400mb and i upgraded to 2gb of DDR1 for 60+ dollars...
and to my surprise, unlike vista, xp didnt use any of it up... still 400mb

    thx

If it is ok then no need to waste money! On the other hand, better is better!

If you can get the stick for under $15 it would be very good. Just incase he opens up a few more windows.

I believe DDR sticks have gone up in price due to their rarity as DDR2 and DDR3 have moved into the mainstream.
