    I wanted to know would it be a waste of money to opt for 4gb of memory apposed to 2gb memory, whould 2gb be enough for me??? I'm a student entering my freshman year in college and wanted to get a good opinion..
    I enjoy downloading allot of music and plan to do allot with my computer..allot of multi tasking but will the exra 2gb make that much of a difference

    im also entering college, getting a high-end gaming laptop, 2gb is alll you need.

    Agreed, for now, 2 GB is all you need. You can always upgrade in the future, when ram prices are cheaper.

    I assume Vista, don't know if your GPU is going to borrow system RAM. People say 3GB's speeds up Vista, 4GB's is too much unless Vista 64, 32 only sees 3.2GB's. So 4GB's not needed 2GB's should be enough. If IGP might think about 3GB's though. :cool:

    My guess is 3GB, dual channel doesnt do much anyways.

    Go with 2GB's, I can even use all of that with Ps and playing games and internet.

    i went for 4 GB from the start
    so i don't need to throw away RAM once i do want/need 4 GB =)

    i'll be running Vista 32 bit at the start, so i'll let you know how much Vista actually reports ;)
    and i'll upgrade to 64 bit when I think it's ready =)

    From the thread title it looks like you are possible ordering from Dell, and thinking about paying them for memory upgrades. Do not get memory upgrades from them, they will rape you on it. Buy the lowest possible amount of memory from them and upgrade it yourself. You will come out ahead even if you end up throwing away the memory that comes with it.
