Link It does not have a 667mhz FSB like the N280.

The Z series tend to be included with chipsets that are limited to 1GB (like Dell's Inspiron 10/12). That can be a bit of a turn off for some, especially with the 12 including Vista.

No, newer versions of the chipset can use 2GB.

It'll be interesting to see if it's stable on an OC to 2.5GHz (667FSB)

Since Netbooks dont really have great cooling systems (because they dont need them), i dont know if a Netbook would be able to handle an Overclocked one safely. And also, i cant imagine the Atom very capable of handling overclocking...

But thats me, you never know. :)

The current atom N270 overclocks from 1.6 to 2.1 (533->667) no problem in most netbooks. I do not see why temperature would be a problem on the new Atoms.

My EEE has this ability built in with the Asus Super Hybrid Engine. It has 4 modes, from Power Save up to Super Performance, which overclocks it. MSI Winds have their own program built in too.

I think they should try to have a duo atom before they start ramping up the GHz.

They did, it performed worse than the Single Core... :p

But they should try again. ;)

That is because it was two single core Atom's stuck together.

i wonder if the capability to overclock will go down on 1.6 ghz atom chips if they release a 2.0 ghz chip. they could simply bin them to the 2.0 ghz bin and have far less ocing.

I know they can but there are few netbooks out there that have these processors, and the ones that do seem to have the 1GB limit (due to ram soldered onboard). It will be interesting to see if any manufacturer will use this chip and not solder ram onboard.

When I had my Asus N10J I had it overclocked to 2.1ghz and at that speed it really made a big difference in the overall speed of the netbook, I can't wait for faster atoms ;)

The Atom Z550 is different from the ones used in most Netbooks. It can't use Intel's regular chipset due to having a special power saving CMOS FSB and only the "Poulsbo" chipsets(one of them being US15W) can run them. The US15W chipset uses even slower IGP named GMA 500 though the features are better than the GMA 950 and also supports hardware HD video acceleration up to 720P.

It's also more expensive because the Z series are effectively ULV versions of the Netbook CPUs.
