Now i have my satellite a205-s5804 equipped with 2gb (2x1gb) ddr2 667mhz ram, my laptop has a GL960 chipset, the question is that in many places, like crucial, says that my laptop will run fine with a 800mhz ram (same 2x1GB) here is the link:

    2GB kit (1GBx2), 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400 upgrades for Toshiba Satellite A205-S5804 Laptop/Notebook, CT777301 from Crucial.com

but other places like this says it will only work with 667mhz ram:

Toshiba Satellite A205-S5804 Computer Memory | Toshiba Satellite A205-S5804 RAM | Toshiba Satellite A205-S5804 Upgrade

so I was wondering if anyone still have a satellite a205-s5804 with 800mhz ram.... because I've seen the benefits of 800mhz against 667mhz, that's why I decided to upgrade mine to give it a better response.

this is the ram I want to install on it (2x1GB)

    thanks:thumbsup:

By the way, this is the ram I want to install on it (2x1GB):

DDR2 800 is a waste of money, maximum RAM speed supported is 533 MHz.

It came with PC-5300 so I suspect it does support 667MHz. I remember back when this chipset came out Intel specs and real world not the same. People were getting 800MHz to run.

That said more than the Chipset can limit. There could be BIOS limitations.

Now if little or no cost issue and if it clocks down to 667MHz not really anything to lose getting PC-6400. Are you running 64 bit OS. If not be ready to have a 3.5GB hard limit on your system. Extra memory would be nice. Speed a little bit less critical.

Good luck and if you do it let us know. My guess is no chipset issue, BIOS worries me more.

Edit: I see you are only going for 3GB total so 3.5GB limit does not matter for OS but is possible BIOS issue with 3GB. I bet if there ever was any BIOS issue an update fixed to allow more than 2GB.

:confused:P.D.: can i install two diferent brands on ram?

by the way my signature have my system specs...

    as this post says
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...t-upgrades/223987-gl960-t7500-800mhz-fsb.html

I will try to install 3GB, I already have two 1Gb modules (667mhz), so i wil buy one 2Gb module (667mhz), here are my choices:

    Option 1:
    Amazon.com: 2GB PC2-5300 667MHZ DDR2 Sdram: Electronics

    Optiono 2:
    Amazon.com: Corsair 2GB (1x2GB) DDR2 667 MHz (PC2 5300) Laptop Memory (VS2GSDS667D2): Electronics

    Option 3:

Brands do not matter. Look at timmings as they revert to the slowest/lhighest for latency. But I doubt that matters much, I guess I am just saying don't spend xtra money on a stick that has tighter timmings than what you will pair with.

With the low cost of RAM consider getting 2x2GB sticks of 800MHz. If it can't see the 2nd stick because of 3GB BIOS limit send one back. Just thoughts, as I said the extra GB of RAM will help more than speed.

Good luck. And do tell if all worked well.

Everyone!!! the laptop memory upgrade was a succes!!!! I already had installed 1x2Gb 667mhz ram sticks, now I have 3GB of ram!!! 1x1gb + 1x2Gb!!!!! to install it, I turned arround the laptop, and in the lower bay I installed the 1x1GB stick and in the upper bay I installed the 1x2GB stick.
The limitation that this computer have on the amount of ram is given by the lower bay, because you can´t set more than 1GB ram stick on it.

the ram I bought is this one:
    2GB DDR2-667 PC2-5300 Non-ECC Unbuffered 200pin 1.8V CL=5

and here is the link to amazon I used:
    Amazon.com: 2GB PC2-5300 667MHZ DDR2 Sdram: Electronics

I leave you these info because it was very hard to me to find the right match for my pc, and now it works i'm sharing my results

    :D

So now that you have 1 x 1 GB and 1 x 2 GB, can it be assumed that you are now running in asynchronous dual channel? Have you noticed any [minor] performance gains or hits after the upgrade?

Well, I haven't benchmarked any games because I don't use my laptop to play anymore... But in everyday usage the laptop runs definitely faster, I boots faster, it loads my desktop faster, I used to have my 8GB USB as ready boost but now I don't use it anymore. The fact I really like is that iTunes was a very slow opening program, it also opens faster.

Conclusion: I don't feel any performance hit using the asynchronous dual channel, even aero score turns to 3.2 from 3.0 and my gaming score to 3.4 from 3.2

P.D.: before posting this I ran the stress test on Counter Strike Source and it showed up in the log that it only recognizes 2048 ram available... And no fps drops or gains on the results...

By the way PROSTAR thanks for the like! You can check out my other post where I was searching for upgrade components on my laptop, there is valuable info :D

And thank YOU for the follow up! And yeah, iTunes is a bit of a memory hog from what I remember (haven't used it for some time now though). I'll keep that correspondent post in mind!
