Because I'm big on reliability, lately I've been using 1tb caviar black internal drives which I hot swap in a sharkoon external caddy which accepts 3.4" and 2.5" sata drives (and ide via cable) to the notebook via esata (or usb 2.0).

The drive just slot into the top of the caddy. Caviar Black drives are one of WD's top performing and reliable drives. I spend about £65 for each TB though.

Checking the above link, I think the 1TB Caviar Black is about the same price as the 2TB Elements external drive. However you're paying for the extra performance and reliability in my opinion.

Look at it this way, the Caviar Black has a 5 yr warranty whilst the Elements drive has a 1 year warranty. Which drive does WD feel is more reliable? lol

If anything, a WD Green drive will outlive a similar WD Black drive, regardless of whatever warranty they give it.

Beats the Amazon deal I found this morning lol.

What I like about the Elements is none of that annoying software, a no BS external hard drive

No eSata or USB 3.0? What's the point?

USB 3.0 benchmarks are hardly faster than 2.0. Until chipsets officially support 3.0 and not through the NEC chip I will completely disregard USB 3.0

And it's a 2 TB external for under 90 bucks, can't complain about lack of E-SATA

Are you assuming that just because the green runs a lot cooler? I only tend to slot mine into the caddy for occasional quick backups so they rarely run for more than 1 hour.

However, I am tempted by the Caviar Green since it's 1.5TB for £10 less than the 1TB Caviar Black. Of course, backing up a 1TB system will take much longer using the Caviar Green than the Black.

usb3.0 is far faster than 2.0 even if its not the official standard or whatever....also disk drives will never max that. Usb 2.0 is 30MBps at best

EDIT: i honestly don't know what ur talking about with saying that usb 3.0 is hardly faster
