I have recently changed my laptop hard drive to an SSD and placed the original drive in the dvd bay.
The SSD by itself works fine, but the old hard drive is not recognized by Windows.
When the dvd bay is activated in the bios Windows take a really long time to start-up to.

The old hard drive works when installed in it's original place. Actually, when I use Hiren's boot usb to boot to XP the HDD is recognised even when in the caddy!

I have a HP 8710w and I bought this caddy:
Amazon.com: HDE® 12.7mm SATA HDD Caddy to PATA: Computers & Accessories

    Any ideas?

Could be the PATA. Win 7 sometimes won't play nice with it. Does the disk show up in the bios and in disk management?
