    Hey all,

I've 2Gb's of RAM physically installed but only 1Gb is showing up in task manager.

I recently reinstalled the OS and the replaced the GPU's.

The laptop is the one in my sig.

Any ideas what the problem is or for a solution?

    Many thanks,
    72oo

What quantity does the BIOS of the laptop think is present?

The BIOS thinks its just 1Gb.

EDIT: Solution found - a loose RAM stick!

It must have been very loose. Normally the computer doesn't boot at all if the RAM isn't properly seated.

Well I am glad its working for you
The XPS1730 should have no problem addressing 4Gb of memory, so upgrading the memory in the future is always a possibility.
I think Dell may have released a new Bios which supports up to 8Gb of memory, but I am not sure of that yet.

Yeah, there was actually enough space to make it look as if it was engaged, but a another push got it into place. (After I'd lost some hair trying to figure out the problem  )

    Cheers.
Yeah, I think its A09 that allows way more RAM. Don't know if many M1730 owner's actually need 8Gb!
