I have a customized HP dv4000, and I belive it does support dual channel memory. SO would it be better to have 2 matching sticks of RAM? I it comes with 256 already but was wondering what kind of a difference it would be to put in a stick of 512MB.

More RAM is always better - get as much as you can. Dual-channel doesn't make a big difference.

I'd et 1x512 so you have room to add more if you want. Dual channel has a minimal impact.
