I currently have a t61 with 2 GB of ram on 2 dimms. I'm running a 32 bit vista business and I would like to upgrade to 3 GB of ram. However, I would like to have the same size ram from the same manufacturer on both dimms. I can't seem to find any 3 GB kits. I see 2 GB kits and 4 GB kits, but not 3 GB kits. Do they even exist?

No, they do not. You'll need a single 1GB stick and a single 2GB stick to hit 3GB.

You might as well just get a 4GB kit, and you'll get about 3-3.5GB of usable RAM.

You should just replace one of the 1GB modules with a 2GB module. The resulting 3GB RAM will still run in asynchronous dual channel mode, so you won't be losing that advantage. You don't need for them both to be the same size.

Then again, why not? 4Gb of RAM doesn't cost much now anyway.

Having 1gb of sodimm and using winXp/Ubuntu is it sufficient to add another 1 gb sodimm module (667 or 800 mhz) ?

For XP , 2Gb is more than enough, for Vista 3 gb .
Most laptops do not support 800Mhz RAM, but if you get a good deal on 800 Mhz RAM, get that, since maybe your next laptop might be able to use it.Else, get 2x2Gb of 667.

I guess to have found an 800 mhz sodimm module (Transcend) at the same price of 667 mhz.

You can use the 800Mhz SODIMM but it will run at 667Mhz.

4GB is the sweet spot. Trust me, I know. ;)

Personally I am impressed with Vista's RAM usage. Previously it used all of my 2GB, and it caches even more with 4GB; it still uses all of it, and provides a substantial performance boost. 4GB RAM + 64-bit OS = bliss.
