alright so right now i have 2 monitors (a 22" samsung and my laptop display) i now have a second samsung 22" monitor.

i want to be able to use 1 samsung monitor via VGA, the laptop screen, and the 3rd screen (samsung) via HDMI.

Ive tried to use 3 displays at once before, but it says the card can only allow 2 monitors at once.

is there a display driver or anything else that i can use that would allow to use HDMI, VGA and the laptop display all at once?

    thanks

NOTE: i have an x300, which has a 9700M GTS

best bet is likely a set of USB monitor driver/adapters. 'best bet' is in terms of being easy and reliable without having to deal with splitting out dvi or hdmi.

Remember that hdmi is intended to drive a drm-capable monitor with drm software and drm source material. Other uses of hdmi interfaces get 'interesting'; they may work but then again may not. Hdmi certified devices are always, always looking for drm signatures. If the sigs aren't found, a drm device (software, port, monitor, etc) will occasionally lock up. We don't want that to happen in the middle of CS do we?

Anyway, with the USB display adapters, be sure to look at the USB port layout of your machine so as to get each adapter on it's own USB port. This might help a bit in terms of interface bandwidth, etc.

I personally like the Matrox stuff, but there are plenty of makers.

Can use a DIY VIDock to add another adapter to drive additional monitors.

As stated, no notebook supports more than 2 monitors natively, so you'll have to look at other solutions such as USB adapters, docking station, or external graphics solution. Which solution is best depends on your usages and budget.

The notebooks with the ATI HD5xxx series cards are capable, but I'm not sure about the connectors on those notebooks. But yea, USB adapters are probably going to be the easiest.

a video card without the correct connectors does NOT make a laptop multi-monitor capable.

    silly silly silly
