Maybe this is a dumb question:

I'm getting an xps 1530 w/ 1 gb ram and upgrading it to 2gb myself. I was just wondering though (out of curiosity) if there are only two accessible mem slots, how is it possible to get 3 gb dual channel as the website claims. You would need 4 sticks (2x1gb, 2x516mb.)

    You can have combinations, e.g. 1.5GB = 1x1GB and 1x512MB, therefore for 3GB = 1x1GB + 1x2GB ram sticks.

Yes. Only 2GB out of the 3GB would be used in dual channel mode.

I believe because of Intel Flex Memory Technology on the Santa Rosa chipset in a 1gb x 2gb setup you will get duel channel for the matching size and the the leftover 1 gig in the 2gb stick will run at single channel. So you get 2gb running in duel channel and 1 gb in single channel for 3 gigs total. Some one please correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Flex Memory is not new to "Santa Rosa" chipset (965) it has been around for several generations of chipsets, at least 3 maybe more, I forgot.
