I know DDR2 motherboards will freak out if you put in three sticks of memory. I was wondering if it has changed with DDR3 any.

If using a core i7 you should use 3 sticks because it has a triple-channel memory controller.

Well it's a dual channel board so running 3 sticks would not take advantage of that and the memory would run in single channel mode. I would just stick to pairs for dual channel. I don't see why 3 wouldn't work, it just won't be optimal.

It's perfectly fine to use 3 sticks of ram while running dual channel in asynchronous mode. -
