I start uni soon, and I want to take the 1TB drive from my desktop, so I have access to my media when in my dorm (and watch on my laptop). There seems to be a billion and one different enclosures, with little to differenciate between them.

Some appear to have fans for additional cooling, whereas some are fanless. Is active cooling a good idea? The potential benefits are obvious of course, but how hot can a HDD actually get in a caddy?

Any recommendations? eSATA would be nice (for use on my desktop) but far from essential. I guess I just want it to be nice and stirdy, and not kill my drive!

This is a consideration because of the eSATA and on/off switch (they don't seem to all have this?), though no cooling.

    Any input is appreciated!
