I have heard that the Apple 30" Cinema works only with dual dvi or "dual link" dvi outputs. The Apple Macbook Pro has the dual link dvi and runs it fine, but the Apple rep said that it is the only laptop with dual dvi. I have found the Apple reps to be rather stupid and deceiving (at the Apple store near me so don't take offense ;) )so I'm wondering if this is true. I really don't like Macs, and I would like an hp dv9000t or an Alienware 17" (not sure which model), but I need it to be compatible with the Apple 30". If these don't work does anyone know of a laptop that does support the monitor, has dual hard drives, and is 17"?

    Thanks guys,

    Paul

Apple monitors on the PC platform can cause some big problems. I had a 23" Apple monitor and it ran fine with a Nvidia 6800 Ultra AGP card. I built a new system with a Nvidia 8800 GTS and now I get no video output. Seems like there needs to be a firmware upgrade. But guess what, Apple does not support the PC platform. Apple tech and their forums had no solution. So now I have to sell the 23" and I will be getting a 24" Dell. One problem you are going to have is that a 30" monitor at 2580x1600 resolution takes tons of GPU power. If you are not going to game a top of the line laptop GPU might work. If you plan on gaming you will need to decrease the resolution and/or lower quality settings quite a bit. A 30" monitor really screams=play me at 2580x1600.

Hmm well then what about the new Dell 30" would that work with any of the laptops out there. I don't game much. I do a lot of web, print, and video work so that is the main use, and the video card I would be getting an X1900 in the alienware IF it supports a 30" screen
