Ok first of all, all i hear is people talking about how 64 bit is the way of the future. Can someone please explain to me what the 64 bit is? Does it just have to do with the dual core performance computers? I am sorry but i am really dumb when it comes to computer details. Also when i am customizing a laptop what is the best choice for networking? I know what bluetooth is for cell phones but what is it for laptops? Thanks for all of your help!![]()

Mostly all computers except AMD are 32-bit systems. AMD jumped on the technology boat to start to release processors that will operate a 64-bit...which you could say is alot better than 32-bit.
The big thing now is the debate about when 64-bit will become mainstream. Most people will settle for a 32-bit for the next few years...but it is a personal preference and poketbook question.
Bluetooth is used on cell phones the same way as computers. Headsets and mice, keyboards all come as bluetooth accessories for a computer. It is better than normal wireless keyboards etc. -
k thanks! You cleared up a lot! Are the 64 bit systems expected to be expensive?
-
Depends, you have compaq ones starting from U$ 529 (after rebate) till really very expensive ones.
-
how do you know if they are 64 bit or not. I dont see where it says.
-
AMD's Turion 64bit processors are cheaper than Intel centrino processors.
-
The PC industry converted from processing data in 16bit chunks to 32bit chunks in the 80's, now we are on the verge of converting from processing data in 32bit chunks to processing data in 64bit chunks.
64bit hardware and 64bit software is the future of the PC industry. The argument is over how quickly these 32bit only laptops will become not wanted due to their inability to run a 64bit OS. Noone knows for sure, but the only way to protect yourself is to get a 64bit-Ready laptop.
Alll of AMD's laptops are 64bit ready and they are generally cheaper and perform better to.
All of Intel's laptops are 32bit only and are at a premium due to the huge advertising dollars that get rolled into the price.
That is the jist of the argument. -
If it is powerd (CPU) with AMD Turion or AMD Athlon 64, then it is 64 bit
BTW you can use bluetooth for regular networking, but it is MUCH slower and shorter range. So the main usage of BT on PCs is periferals (mouse, keyboard...) and syncing with PDAs and cellphones -
ok. If you guys have an answer to this next question, please let me know! What is a good gaming laptop with 64 bit technology. My bydget is around $1300 or $1400.

You can buy it in www.rawpowerpc.com.
If you wait more 3 weeks or so thre´s going to be an interesting release from MSI:

- ATI X1600 - with 256mb

for the sake of me not going crazy please don't read any of 64bits posts.
64bit processors will not be usefull for a few years, that is the general consensus around here overall, so buying a 64bit processor now is not extremely important, if you get one now it will likely be out of date by the time 64bit is really important. i'm sure many people will agree with this. -
