    3G upgrade with wifi, how ?

    Hi,

    my laptop has mini pci slot which wifi adaptor uses.

    can i replace this with a 3g modem that also contains wifi so i dont loose wifi.

    What laptop do you have? Most models these days have at least two such slots, one for WiFi, and one for 3G or Bluetooth. Sometimes all three.

    Notebooks tend to have a wifi slot and a WWAN slot, the latter using usb pins (pin 36/38). You might be lucky and have pin 36/38 connected on the wifi slot too. A visual inspection can help determine that.

    Its a Samsung Q320.

    It has 1 mini pci slot which currently has the wifi card inserted into.

    Obviously I dont want to loose wifi by replacing the card.

    even i would like to get this GOBI device for my VAIO.where can i get hold of it?

    i found it on Dell small business store but its 149 usd.

    where can we find it for more resoanable cost?

    the only dell cards I can find dont have wifi !

    I don't think 3G/WiFi combination cards exist.

    They make ExpressCard 3G cards and WiFi cards, so you could get whichever you want. Generally, I'd say keep your WiFi internal and if you want 3G, get an ExpressCard for that.

    Hi,

    I looked at expresscards however they all seem to stick out the computer a fair bit.

    I used to have a PCMCIA card which only had a small antenna on the outside of the computer which could be removed if not needed.

    Anything like this for expresscard ?
