Considering that you are probably using a 32bit OS, no. It probably isn't worth it even if you did have a 64bit OS, as 3GB is more than enough.

I chose 64-bit Vista Home Premium... Probably best to wait a year and see if the DDR3 get cheaper? Is DDR3 much better anyway?

The extra memory is only going to benefit you if you regularly use 3GB of memory running applications. If not, then you're not going to see a performance boost.

You can't use DDR3 in your notebook, only DDR2.

How does DDR3 work? I don't understand why it won't work in my laptop, my graphics card is a 9600GT 512MB DDR3 so that's confusing to me.

Graphics memory and system memory are completely different.
Your graphics card is not DDR3, it is GDDR3. Your system uses DDR2 memory.
Your chipset can only use DDR2 memory, so you must use that.
DDR3 memory has a different pin layout and will not fit in your laptop.

Cool, thanks... yeah, fitting in a different pin layout may prove difficult lol. As you probably know, I just asked the question straight-out without researching at all. Thanks for the answer though!

Yeah, I seems it's not worth it though, I should get along just fine with 3GB 667 RAM. :D

It is very easy to upgrade, should you need it later, and prices are always falling. Just wait until you *need* it.

    The 9600M in the HDX18T is DDR2, not GDDR3.

Don't know where Saleen got GDDR3 from.

System memory and GPU memory are totally independent of each other. GPUs have their own onboard memory (unless integrated, where they share the system memory) and cannot be upgraded period. GPUs can use DDR2, GDDR3, and supposedly even GDDR5 (current desktop HD 4xxx only ATM, I believe). System memory is what you can upgrade and if your system is DDR2, you cannot use DDR3 since it has a different physical layout (204 pins vs. DDR2's 200 pins). Hope that clears up any confusion. On a side note, 1337th post ;)
