I heard somewhere that rams with the same memory would be a better match and give better performance. So, would 2GB (1GB each slot) perform better in anyway than 3GB (1GB + 2GB)?

2GB is dual channel and 3GB not. Dual channel is good to have but 3GB is better. Atleast if you use programms that need alot of ram.

You may be interested in these measurements I made on my Samsung X60 plus (T7200 + Intel 945PM chipset).
Unfortunately, I don't have 2 x 1GB 667MHz to have tried that combination but all the other results are very similar for memory bandwidth.
Whether you will benefit from more that 2GB depends on whether you like to have lots of RAM-hungry applications open at the same time. Look in Task Manager to see how much RAM you are using (Commit Charge).

It should be flex dual channel. 2x 1GB will be dual. Rest will be single

It all depends on if you're using up all your RAM. If you're running out of memory it's always better to add more, no matter what the speed.
Get out perfmon (or the equivalent in Vista if that's what your running) and chart your memory usage during a normal day. If you're regularly using up 2gb of RAM and using swap then adding memory is the way to go.
Usually the only way to use up 2gb of RAM is by gaming, or opening a lot of memory-hungry apps at once. Like Photoshop while working on very big images, etc. The modern games will eat up 2gb of RAM like a snack and come looking for more if you let them. -
The thing is I have a 2GB stick and a 1GB stick. I'm not sure what to install on my new x61s (I bought it with only 512MB). So so the question is: Is 3GB better than 2GB?

Yes, if you already have it then plug it all in. More is better!

My friend mentioned something about this to me ages ago. This thread was interesting for me - thanks - rep to you mate.
3GB RAM really better than 2?
