I am having to go back to 32 bit vista as I cannot find drivers that will allow me to change the brightness of my screen under 64 bit.
I bought 2 x 2GB module that now will only show up as 3GB which i am a bit gutted about.
From a performance/stability point of view is it ok to leave the two modules in or should i put one of the 1GB modules back in?
I'm thinking that physically having 4gb and the os only being able to see 3 might cause some issues?

There won't be any stability issues caused by this. 32 bit memory addressing just limits the maximum amount of RAM able to be used, since 500+ MB are reserved for other memory allocations besides RAM. No need to spend extra money to buy a 1 GB SODIMM.

Also I believe you get a very very slight performance increase using 2X2GB vs 1GB + 2GB (3% bandwidth on Intel) instead of reading the 1st 2GB on 128bit and last 1GB on 64bit with 3GB configuration the 4GB will read the entire 3GB it can address on 128bit (2X64=128=Dual channel). So don't fret be happy.
3GB or 4GB
