I'm kinda new to the game; however, I was looking at some specs on several Acer Aspire 3100's and 5100's and they both say "expandable to 4 gigs of ram"....Is this actually possible being that they both only have 2 dimms? I was pretty sure 2 gigs was max right now in a notebook, or am I misreading this?

No, it's right. Most laptops support 4GBs now (assuming you have 2x 2GB sticks which is more than I'd rather pay).

Yeah a 2GB RAM module alone cost as much as a laptop, ~$1300

Actually they have created 4 GB RAM modules now so the 2 GB RAM modules should be dropping in price soon if not already. Might have to wait for Vista to be officially released for this to happen more frequently of RAM being cheaper.

It'll be a while before 4GB becomes feasible or worthwhile for regular usage...

However, I like that idea a lot...can't wait til it is cheap enough!
