What is the differences between a 4200 rpm drive and a 5400 one if you compare speed, power consumption, heat generation and noise?

go to the hardware forum. there is a sticky on top that will answer your question.

My answer. Same power consumption, same heat, 5400RPM faster. I see no point to choose the 4200RPM option when a 5400RPM option can be had.

And if you have the money for it, the 7200 offers close to desktop performance :)
