Several months ago, i upgraded my HP Compaq nc6120 laptop with a Intel Pentium M processor, which runs on a 479 socket. Now i want to upgrade it to a dual core processor, and i've found some with a 479 socket, but, i am a bit confused. I've read that the dual core processors does not have some pins at the same place, as the Pentium M processor. Am i able to upgrade to a dual core?

The Core CPUs won't fit in the Socket 479, they need Socket M.

thank you for the quick answer

No pentium M system is upgradeable to a dual core processor. The fastest processor you can upgrade to is the Pentium M780 at 2.26GHz.
If you have a slower Pentium M like 1.6Ghz, I would say try to upgrade to a M760 or so just to have about 2.0GHz, and see how that works for you. Pentium M processors should be very cheap these days, so if you can get one for about $20-25 upgrade the processor
If not, save up for a dual core or possibly quad core laptop

Just for the record it will fit without any problems, because from the 855GM era to the current Centrino 2 platform, the socket mPGA479M has been used on motherboards because it has 479 pin-holes and all CPUs (Socket 479; M; P) have had (and have) 478 pins.
They are not electrically compatible with each other, and the various chipsets support a select family of processors.
I wouldn't bother upgrading a Pentium M system, since the new Core 2 Duo and Pentium Dual-Core systems are cheap and much faster (and more efficient - probably) than Pentium Ms.
Basically the Intel 855 and 915 chipsets don't support Dual Cores, and the BIOS will not have any remap codes to support the different pinout of the dual cores. -
I have a Pentium M 2.00ghz processor now. -
Nope, you cannot upgrade to a dual core -.-

Thank you for the reply. Then i just have to save up to a dual core pc...
