    Is it ok?

I currently have 3 GB total running a 32bit OS.

I want to get at least 6 gigs for now in time for 64bit windows 7. (BTW I dont see anywhere about what 32 or 64 bit windows 7 comes in? yet RC makes this distinction)

So my question is, is 2GB in 1 DMM and 4 GB in another DIMM ok? Some computer store clerk told me its not good but I am doubtful and wana make sure.

It's perfectly feasible, and it's really the only way to have a 6GB memory configuration. Beware, though; 4GB memory modules are very expensive.

    DDR2 4gb modules are about 150-200 while DDR3 are 300+

does it make a HUGE difference?

I really want more than 4 gig of ram so I can turn paging completely off and then run a small but fast SSD as the OS boot drive so as to conserve space and everything.

anyway, yea the 4GB 1xDIMM is very expensive. I'm thinking either just up it to 4GB for now with a cheaper 60 dollar 2GB 1xDIMM DDR3, or maybe go down a notch to DDR2 but 4GB?

    can you tell me whats better: DDR3 1333 PC3-10666 or DDR3 1333 PC3-8500?

Also is it ok to be criss crossing in terms of DDR[number], total memory, etc etc?

Its actually 1066 and 850 mhz... the 1066 is going to be better... however the DDR2 will still work amazingly, at this point there is no real benefit to DDR3 memory as nothing really utilizes it...

Oh wait nvrm the DDR3 is 1333mhz... lol what do the numbers at the very end stand for?

    DDR2 can't be installed to DDR3 socket.

That's DDR3 I believe, the pin just means what pin type you can match up not what type of memory works ;)

Personally I would stick to 4GB DDR2 and call it a day. You're not going to notice a big difference going to 6 GB

I would stick to 3GB for now and call it a day. Get the 4GB 1xDIMM when the price goes below $100.
